Eyes and Buttons

Brad and I do a date night every two weeks or so, but for some reason, going to the movies is never on the list of things to do.  Brad actually hadn't been to the movies since Jackass 2 in Dallas.  Can you believe that??? Anyway, we broke the chain and went to see Benjamin Button.  It was one of those life changing movies for me, meaning I view life a little bit differently since I have seen it.  Totally, incredibly, amazing!!!  I cried for half the movie ,and after it was over I had to sit for 15 minutes to compose myself.  I haven't done that since the movie Dear Frankie (which please see this movie, also awesome).  The movie also affected Brad and we couldn't even discuss it for a while after seeing it without getting emotional.  I asked him, "Why did it affect you so much?" And he said, "Everything is different now since Drew came."  Aww so few words but so much meaning :)  I especially loved how NOLA was portrayed.  No Voodoo Queens visits for something New Orleans related.  Now that is a first!

Yesterday was also time to do something we hadn't in a while - go to the eye doctor.  Now this was a new doctor because we had very many problems with the staff of the old one.  And yes I was extremely confrontational because I had to be :)  A very long story for another day......
Anyway, this new doc did something I had never seen done before - He took my contacts out of my eyes himself.  Usually you go in and tell them what you can see with your contacts then you take them out and go on with the rest of the exam.  This doctor actually washed his hands and took out my contacts for me.  I was glad because after 2 years, I still suck at taking out my contacts and I am very embarrassed about my lack of skill.  Brad on the other hand is a pro and he said he felt really violated.  I guess after thinking about it, it is weird.  Has anyone else had this happen before?  Anyway, I am convinced that all eye doctors are nut jobs.  This is my third one, and they are all on the strange side.  Brad only had one that he liked but he was in Plano and boy did we pay for his sanity.  I used to say his office was The Castle because we paid for king service when Brad went there.

Today I am getting my haircut and I am thinking of doing something different.  Maybe going shorter than usual?  I don't know if I will chicken out at the last minute.  I just want something to represent my new attitude for 09 :)

Woah! No way. Aint nobody touching my eyes but me. I'm with Brad on the feeling-violated-o-meter. *shiver*

Post a pic of your haircut when you get it!

"And yes I was extremely confrontational because I had to be :) A very long story for another day......"
I am intrigued...

I will indulge you a little bit :) Long long story short - Brad's whole family had gone to this doctor for a long time. When we started going again after the storm, much information had changed about Brad. Instead of setting Brad up separately, they somehow set up his dad as our son and billed us for his exams. When I figured that out (after paying the bill) and called them on it, they asked me to ask his dad for the money back. WTF?? Are you for real? I think I seriously asked the woman that. This could go on much longer but I will end it there. It took me over 6 months to get my money back from them. In addition they billed my Blue Cross insurance instead of my VSP account so that was another thing but ok ok this really is the end :)
P.S. This first eye doctor is also a magician and will do magic tricks upon request. He also had one of those monkeys with the cymbals in every one of his rooms...Freaky!!

OH MY GAWD NO WAY!!

There is NO WAY I would let anyone else touch my eyes. I shivered just hearing about it! I would have stopped him. That's just weird.

And yay haircut, can't wait to see it Friday!

I'm surprised by how affected you were by Benjamin Buttons. I thought it was a great story, and moving, but it didn't really surprise me. Everything that happened was pretty expected to me. But maybe I have to have kids. I'll have to watch it again one day. :)

The eye dr my family started going to before I went to college (he works in clearview and they still go to him) took your contacts out himself. I agree. Totally violating and awkward.

It definitely traumatized me the first time, but none of the rest of them seem to have a problem with him.

I agree with every one else. Totally "ugh" on having the eye doctor take them out. Maybe next time you can sit back and say that you really prefer to take them out yourself.

*** SPOILER ALERT -- STOP READING IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN BENJAMIN BUTTONS ***

Can you ask Brad what he would have done if he were Benjamin Buttons? Would he have left his child at the age of 2 like Benjamin did? I still can't understand why he did that, but like Jen, I don't have kids either, so I probably don't fully understand his actions.

Ok I will explain my Buttons overreaction a bit :) First the lesson that we have such a limited time to really live life hit home for me. First we are children and we don't understand life. We are dependent on others to care for us. Last we are older and forget everything we learned and we revert sometimes to a childlike state where we are dependent on others to care for us. If you know someone who has alzheimer's this is especially true. We only have the "middle" to really live and appreciate life. I just want to make sure I capture every moment I have with Drew and my family because one day I might forget how happy I am and how blessed. I want to enjoy it now while I can.
The other thing that killed me was when Benjamin turned into a baby and she is rocking him and he looks at her and knows exactly who she was before he passes. When Drew was in the NICU and I got to hold him again for the first time he was taken from me, I said to him, "Drew, it's mommy." Then this child who hadn't really opened his eyes and made limited movements in his bed under the lights lifted his head and cuddled to me. Our whole family looking through the glass saw it and we all lost it. When this scene happened, both Brad and I were back to that moment.
Oh and Brad says that he thinks it was the right decision for Benjamin to leave his child because of what happened to him in the end but he says he doesn't know if he could of done it.

I agree about eye doctors. I went to one once because I have "floaters" and see spots. The old man had to put on glasses to do stuff, which for some reason wasn't very comforting. Then he told me my floaters are commen in 40 yr olds. Am I 40? I went to another doctor for a 2nd oponion.
